Traditional Indian Wedding with an Inspiring Story

When Rana was met with a breast cancer diagnosis in the middle of wedding planning, the first thoughts were if her and John should reschedule. The couple, who met on OKCupid, decided to go ahead with the wedding as planned, centering their inspiration around the intense journey the diagnosis put the pair through. “We were so happy we didn’t reschedule,” Rana shared, “since the wedding had so much emotion and love because of my diagnosis.”

Their first official act as a married couple? Shave their heads in front of all their family and friends! “It was so fun! It was such a beautiful moment which came across as a sort of celebration!” After that, the real party began with Bollywood style dancing and late-night ice cream truck treats for guests. “It was the last weekend before the pandemic really hit New York City so everyone remembers the weekend fondly.”

Their advice for other couples? “Determine a few things that really matter to you and your partner and pay extra attention to those things when you are planning, if you feel like something doesn’t matter, stick with your gut feeling and go with the cheapest/easiest option. My partner and I didn’t care at all about our dishes or place settings so we went with the simplest option which made our lives a lot easier!”
