Out with the Old, In with the New: Top Interior Design Trends to Look Out for in 2019

Feyi Bello / Monday February 11, 2019

2018 saw us loving and obsessing over many interior design highlights. The very popular ones being millennial pink, marble, tropical prints, monochromatic rooms, and mixed metals (the masses’ fave – rose gold & copper). While some of these trends are here to stay, there’s a lot we’re kicking out the door in 2019 (side eying mixed metals – thanks, Pinterest). The design world has a lot to offer this year and I for one can’t wait to see the shift from over dramatic and played out minimalism to maximalism. Below are my top picks for trends to watch out for in 2019:

1.) One with Nature: Biophilic designs in the home

More natural materials, more natural light (yes to ceiling to floor windows!), and more plants in our homes all 2019!

2.) Hello Maximalism: “More is more”

To be honest, we’ve all gotten so comfortable with minimalism that it’s going to be a little bit of a challenge to embrace some brighter colors, heavier textures and patterns. But definitely looking forward to seeing more spaces with an infusion of personality.

3.)  Black is the New Black

Black is always going to be in vogue. This color is sure to give your modern home more of a sleek, edgy and expensive look. It’s important that you’re artfully strategic when it comes to using the color black in spaces. Yes to a black kitchen, yes to a bold black accent wall and yes to black bathrooms.

4.) Bold Backsplashes: Vibrant wallpapers

Electrifying wallpapers are going to be a big deal in 2019. A clean whitewashed wall is great and lovely but watch out for playful and functional wallpapers. You can apply a fun wallpaper to your kitchen and bathroom to  give it some unique personality, but let’s not forget the fifth wall – yes the ceiling!

5.) Living Coral: Pantone 2019 color of the year

This color represents playfulness, buoyancy, and optimism. It’s very warm and welcoming as well. Living Coral is a coral hue with golden undertones. There are so many ways this color can be incorporated in our homes, either as a subtle accent or a vibrant paint in an entryway. Whichever one you decide to go with, I “sea” this color as a great playful trend to add some fun in our homes.
