A Fairy Tale Chateau Wedding in Bordeaux, France

Brianna Kozlarek / Wednesday November 22, 2017

Today is the ultimate #WeddingWednesday. Prepare yourselves, because this is truly one of the most beautiful, classic weddings we’ve featured on the blog. Timeless, elegant, Grace Kelly perfect. I mean, it the wedding literally takes place in a French castle – how much more fairtytale can you get?

Danielle and Mathieu met in 2012, a few weeks before Danielle was to study abroad in Italy. During his Spring Break, Mathieu tricked his friends into a “vacation” in Rome, aka meeting his new American crush Danielle. After a long, Skype-filled few years,  Danielle moved to Bordeaux to live with Mathieu, and to learn French. “Our entire style revolved around a single wine case that I found at Château Pape Clément in Bordeaux, France,” said Danielle. “It is the only case that I’ve ever seen that is burgundy, which is very rare and beautiful. Although a simple decoration in my home, it acted as the source of inspiration for the most important day of our lives. Being that Bordeaux is capital of wine, and we were being married among the vineyards, it was without question that this would be our theme. From centerpieces, to bridesmaids gowns, to simple touches like wine cork name cards, we wanted to embrace our surroundings. French, royal and rural, like the story of Cinderella.” Ledia Tashi Photography  captured their fairtyale wedding:

The Ceremony

“The most important thing for us was that the guests felt involved,” said Danielle. “We decided to skip a religious French ceremony and do an outdoor wedding with a bilingual officiant. Being that half of the guests spoke French, and the other half spoke English, we made sure everything was translated in one way or another. Blanca Bertley, our officiant, was bilingual and created a beautiful ceremony. Every few sentences she would switch over to the opposite language. The guests were thanking us up and down, afterward. It was so beautiful and appreciated by both parties.”

The Reception

“Being that the French party all night/morning long (our wedding was 4pm-4am), the memories are endless. We rented out the entire castle for the weekend and had the time of our lives just dancing with friends and family for hours on end. Two cultures who could barely communicate at the start, were adding each other on Facebook by morning!”
