“Wedding planning is a piece of cake,” said no bride ever, but it’s not that bad once you get your top priority tasks out the way. After we finalized our location and date, everything else started falling into place. One major task that has been checked off the list was booking our photographer. Of all our wedding details, photography is the one thing I will not compromise on. After the wedding, our pictures will be the only way for us to keep a physical memory of the day. I want to sit back and look at them and mentally transport myself in time back to one of the best days of my life.

My concern with having a destination wedding was picking a photographer without meeting them face-to-face. In my hunt, I found Damian and Paula Williams of Sun Gold Photography, a husband and wife team that I fell in love with just from looking at their pictures. I emailed Paula and she informed me that they are based in Texas, but travel to Jamaica during the months of July and August just for weddings. Perfect timing!

I had such a warm and fuzzy feeling about them and Calvin loved their body of work.  Paula shared with me some background on her and Damian, her daughter, her father that recently passed away, and just how much they love capturing beautiful memories for their couples. There was such genuineness and she touched a special place in my heart.  After hearing all this, I was sold!

To help with the distance, we will have phone and Skype calls up to the wedding date. Sun Gold has been very responsive to my emails, and I have every confidence that all will go smoothly on July 19, 2015. Take a look at their slideshow from my previous post and you can understand why we chose them to document the love and happiness of our day. I’m most excited about doing our “trash the dress” photo shoot the day after the wedding. Can’t wait to see how that turns out ☺

Here are a few of our other wedding planning updates:

  • We booked AP Vendor Wale Ariztos for our engagement pictures and we are so excited to work with him at the end of November. He is just so freaking awesome and creative!! More details to come…

hashtag

  • We have chosen our wedding hashtag (#CPlove2015) for guests to help us track everything Givens Wedding Weekend (GWW).

mymug

  • Being a bride has been fun, but I’m so ready to be Mrs. Givens. I absolutely love my mug that I got from Simply Made Greetings on Etsy. Jess Miller is so sweet and there are so many cute mugs to choose from. She also does custom work, so please check her out for your bridal needs or gifts for family and friends. She is offering AP readers a 15% discount. Use coupon code CPLOVE.

apbride halloween

  • We had fun on Halloween playing dress up. I was a Bridezilla and then we went to a party, and I was a firefighter and Calvin was my HOT flame. Good times ☺

I’m really looking forward to the holidays for some “wedding planning-free” time.  I’ve decided to take December off to enjoy my fiancé to the fullest. Next year is going to be crazy, and I want to enjoy our last holiday as an “unmarried couple.” Will be a nice time to sit back and reflect on all the awesomeness 2014 bestowed upon us. Wow, it will be my last December as Phyllis George. It’s still so surreal…
