Brooklyn Bridge Park Engagement Shoot by Photonika

Kunbi O / Thursday May 29, 2014
We’re crazy about engagement sessions here at Aisle Perfect. They’re just a great reason to dress up and have fun with your groom. Taina and Scottie’s adorable city session by Photonika is all fun and a whole lot of “cool”. I personally love the balance of grunge and romance in this shoot with the bride’s adorable tulle skirt (you already know how we feel about tutus) and her cute printed shirt. Brooklyn , to me, is one of the coolest cities ever and these pictures highlight that. Sit back and enjoy this beautiful love story and adorable duo behind it.

How They Met

Scottie and I met in October of 2012 at our church, Christian Cultural Center (“CCC”) in Brooklyn, New York. Both looking to dig deeper into our faith, individually we signed up for a class that was offered at church called, “We Believe”.  After about the third Sunday of class, Scottie sat next to me but didn’t say a word! Having noticed him prior to that day and thinking he was cute, I introduced myself and the rest is history! Since CCC is a large church with thousands of members, the chances of us meeting outside of that class were slim to none but we believe that our meeting wasn’t left to chance, it was orchestrated by God and in His plan! The Bible says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33) Scottie and I are a true testament to that fact! We didn’t go looking for a relationship with another human being, we were in search for a deeper relationship with God and God provided us with everything we needed in an earthly relationship with each other!

How He Asked

Scottie surprised me with a proposal at my 35th birthday party! After saying a few words to my friends and family who helped me celebrate, Scottie began thanking everyone too. Then he turned to me and told me how happy he was to celebrate this milestone birthday with me and then he asked me to promise him that he would always be a part of my birthdays from here on out. A little bit nervous at this point because all eyes were on me, I said, “Of course” but then he said it again, this time he began going down on his knee and that’s when I lost it and started crying. I actually turned away from him because I was so nervous. When I turned back to him, he asked me if I would marry him and I immediately said yes!

Inspiration for the Shoot

The inspiration for our e-session was basically Brooklyn! Although Scottie is from Queens, since I am from Brooklyn, we go to church in Brooklyn and we met in Brooklyn, we thought Brooklyn would be a perfect backdrop for gorgeous pictures. And, we were right! We didn’t want anything too styled or coiffed so we had two casual looks. It started raining during our shoot so by the time we changed into our second look (jeans and baseball hats) my hair was through! Lol. We had a lot of fun though and the pictures came out great. I think they express who we are as individuals and who we are together- fun-loving New Yorkers who are crazy in love with each other and with God. I also think the pictures express the beauty of God’s work- both in nature and in our union!
